1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV) – “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
Thanksgiving is a time for reflection and gratitude. Several Christians were sitting in the sanctuary between worship services. One of them mentioned that he had recently come through a crisis in his life. Someone asked him how he managed to get through the situation. He said that he would get up each morning and read the story of Job. He added that reading Job’s report gave him hope and courage to continue. Another member of the sanctuary group chimed in thoughtfully; when I go through a crisis, I read Jeremiah’s story. I like how he described his relationship with God: “It’s like fire shut up in my bones.” There remained one in the group who had not spoken. Realizing it was his turn, he said I enjoy reading the accounts of those biblical characters. However, I don’t turn to them when I am going through a crisis. Instead, I isolate myself, and I begin to reflect. I think about the many times God has delivered me. I thank him for every victory and every blessing in my life. The transformative power of gratitude brings me to a better place mentally and emotionally. That’s how I get through my crises.
As the Bible says in 1 Thessalonians 5:18, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” It’s important to remember the transformative power of gratitude. Gratitude is more than just a fleeting feeling; it’s a conscious choice to focus on the blessings in our lives, no matter how small.
In a world that often emphasizes what we lack or what could be better, choosing gratitude allows us to see the richness of what we already have. It’s about appreciating the simple joys – a warm meal, the company of loved ones, a beautiful sunset. Gratitude turns what we have into enough and more.
Let’s make gratitude a habit this Thanksgiving, not just a feeling. Challenge yourself to start or end your day by listing three things you’re grateful for. These don’t have to be grand or life-altering; sometimes, the small, everyday blessings bring the most joy. Whether it’s the taste of your favorite pumpkin pie, the laughter shared with family, or the quiet moment of morning coffee, each is a gift worth celebrating.
Think about how a gratitude practice has impacted your perspective on life’s challenges and blessings. Reflect on the moments when gratitude shifted your perspective and brought light into your life. Share these reflections with loved ones and encourage them to do the same. Let’s spread the spirit of gratitude far and wide!
As we embrace this season of Thanksgiving, let us carry the spirit of gratitude beyond today and into every day. Remember that each day is a gift, and there is always something to be thankful for.
Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving filled with blessings and gratitude!
