Edifying Ministries
Council of Ministries
Persons who have been chosen to serve as the presidents or Chairpersons of each of the general ministries or annual days of Galilee M. B. Church. Headed by the pastor, the council coordinates, plan and evaluate the programs of the church including calendaring activities.
Deacons
Deacons are the servants of the Church. Each deacon shall serve under the general oversight of the Pastor of the Church and shall relate functionally to the Pastor assisting him in every area of responsibility. The primary work of the Pastor shall be to devote himself to prayer and the ministry of the Word.
A Deacon’s responsibilities shall include the following:
- To assist the Pastor so that he can be released to devote time for “prayer and the service of the Word.” (Acts 6:2-4)
- To be “in charge of” (administer) any particular task assigned by the Pastor. (Acts 6:3)
- To be an example of servant-hood to the Church body. (Acts 6:2-4; Matthew 23:11; I Timothy 3:13)
- To show care and concern for the families of the Church.
Deaconess
The Deaconesses Ministry consists of strong women of God who were chosen to serve the members of the church and the community as spiritual leaders. Deaconesses are called to foster spiritual growth and to provide faithful support to the pastor, the deacons, and the congregation. They perform the following acts of service: the preparation of the sanctuary for the Lord’s Supper, assisting baptism candidates. The deaconesses lay the foundation for a ministry that focuses on the will of God and the needs of others– not on the gratification of individuals or the restraints of tradition.
Trustees
The Trustees serve as legal officers for the church. They hold in trust the church property and any legal commitments of the church; they sign all documents related to the purchase, sale, mortgaging, or rental of church property after approval by the church at business meetings.
