Becoming A Member
In a day when commitment is a rare commodity, it should come as no surprise that church membership is such a low priority to so many believers. Sadly, it is not uncommon for Christians to move from church to church, never submitting themselves to the care of elders and never committing themselves to a group of fellow believers.
To neglect—or to refuse—to join a church as a formal member, however, reflects a misunderstanding of the believer’s responsibility to the body of Christ. And it also cuts one off from the many blessings and opportunities that flow from this commitment. It is essential for every Christian to understand what church membership is and why it matters.
Joining Our Church
Membership is open to anyone who has placed their faith in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of sins and has been baptized by immersion by a body of believers of like faith and practice. If you have not placed your faith in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of sins and been baptized by immersion, we will assist you with these spiritual decisions.
There are two requirements:
Saving Faith
Trusting in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of sins. This decision is the beginning but not the end of what it means to follow Christ.
Baptism by Immersion
We view baptism as being an outward, visible demonstration of an inward spiritual transformation that comes about when one trusts in Christ alone for salvation. Our position of baptism by immersion is based on the following:
The word baptize (baptizo) in Greek means to “dip” or “immerse” under water.
Immersion best illustrates the believers identification with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. (Romans 6:1-11 and Colossians 2:12)
The descriptions of baptism in the New Testament suggest that people were immersed. (Matthew 3:6, John 3:23, Acts 8:38).
