Men’s Ministry

To train men to be a man of God. To educate men in what is is to fulfill their masculine roles in the body of Christ. To train in the servant leadership model of scripture. To provide opportunities to grow in the grace of Christ, to sharpen one another, to serve in the world and make an impact in our culture for the cause of Christ. This ministry is vital to the health of our Church family. The goal is to get every man connected.

Mission Ministry

To unite mission-hearted members in fellowship and personal devotion to Jesus Christ and their commitment to the Great Commission—to win lost souls to Christ. This ministry is made up of circles, or small-group units. The circles provide many opportunities for leadership development and personal growth through bible study, worship, prayer, small-group sharing, workshops, conferences, and retreats.

Marriage Ministry

God treasures the relationships found in marriages and families. He created us in the context of the family to be in relationship with Him and each other. However, marriages are under attack. Couples need encouragement, support, instruction, and prayer to live the life that God has designed for us.

The purpose of this Marriage Ministry is to teach, inspire and empower couples to live a life of wholeness and to be successful in all areas of their marriage-through the knowledge, understanding, and application of the principles of the Word of God.

Women’s Ministry

This ministry is for every woman, no matter your age, background or life stage. We want to meet ladies right where they are and come along side them – encouraging, supporting, praying and equipping them in their journey with God. We want to grow our faith and demonstrate His love and grace through our lives and relationships. We want deeper, Christ-centered relationships with each other through women’s small groups, prayer meetings, fellowships and mentoring.  We want to encourage and equip women to faithfully and fully use their God-given gifts to glorify God.  As we worship and serve the Lord together, we want every woman to feel loved and accepted for who she is in Christ so that she is transformed and empowered to live out Christ’s love and grace.

Shield of Faith in Times of Political Unrest
Scripture:
"Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked." — Ephesians 6:16 (KJV)
Reflection: A Battle Not of Flesh and Blood
The turmoil we see is not just about leaders, governments, or policies—it is a manifestation of a deeper, unseen war. Paul says earlier in Ephesians 6:12:
"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."
This means that the corruption and evil we witness are not just human failings; they are influenced by dark spiritual forces seeking to destroy nations, oppress the weak, and silence God’s people. But as believers, we do not fight with earthly weapons (2 Corinthians 10:4). Instead, we hold up our shield of faith.
How the Shield of Faith Protects Us
Faith Reminds Us That God is Sovereign – No leader, government, or wicked scheme can overthrow the King of Kings (Daniel 2:21).
Faith Guards Our Hearts from Fear – The world may be unstable, but God remains our refuge and stronghold (Psalm 46:1-2).
Faith Keeps Us Anchored in Truth – Propaganda, deception, and lies may flood the media, but faith in God’s Word gives clarity and wisdom (John 16:13).
Faith empowers us to Stand for Righteousness. Instead of despair, we rise as warriors of prayer, truth, and justice (Micah 6:8).
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, in these times of unrest, we trust You as our refuge and defender. Strengthen our faith to stand firm against fear and deception. Protect the vulnerable, expose corruption, and bring justice. Let Your Kingdom come, and Your will be done. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Mrs. Annette Austin, a devoted and cherished membe Mrs. Annette Austin, a devoted and cherished member of Galilee Baptist Church who has been a part of our family for an incredible 73 years.

Mrs. Austin joined Galilee on May 1, 1951, when her parents, Isaac and Dorothy Preston, brought her and her sister JoAnn to our church. From the very beginning, Mrs. Austin embraced an active role in the life of Galilee, becoming a vital part of our community.

As a young woman, she served on the Youth Usher Board and later continued her service on Usher Board #3, where she has been a steadfast presence for many years. Her contributions extend far beyond the doors of the sanctuary, having served on the Kitchen Committee, where her work added warmth and fellowship to countless events. She also lent her beautiful voice to the Junior Choir and later the Adult Choir.

Mrs. Austin has also been a dedicated member of the Rebekah Mission Circle, reflecting her commitment to both faith and service. Her involvement in these ministries has enriched the life of Galilee and touched the hearts of so many in our church family.

Mrs. Austin, your 73 years of dedication, love, and service have been a blessing to Galilee Baptist Church. Today, we honor you for your faithfulness, your spirit of service, and the legacy of commitment you represent.
Carenzia Gates joined Galilee on April 3, 1951, as Carenzia Gates joined Galilee on April 3, 1951, as a young woman eager to serve. From the very beginning, she became an integral part of our church family. Under the leadership of Pastor D.G. Lewis, Carenzia was a driving force in the church’s activities. She made ice cream to sell after service.

Her passion for serving didn’t stop there. She joined the Usher Board immediately upon becoming a member, where she found joy in greeting and serving others. Over the years, she has been a member of Usher Board #3 and supervised the Youth Usher Board, helping to shape the next generation with grace and care.

Carenzia’s heart for service extended far beyond the doors of the sanctuary. She was an active member of the kitchen committee, always a reliable presence as an usher when the church fellowshipped or served with other churches. She also assisted teachers in Vacation Bible School, ensuring that young minds were nurtured in faith.
Her commitment to her community mirrored her dedication to the church. She worked as the head cook for Kentucky Fried Chicken before serving as a lunch matron in the Gary Community School System, retiring in 1993. For over 40 years, she volunteered at Methodist Hospital Northlake and played an active role in her block club, embodying the spirit of selfless service wherever she went.

As a mother of two children, grandmother to two, and great-grandmother to three, Carenzia’s legacy of love and hard work shines brightly through her family and her church community.

Carenzia, you have been a pillar of strength and faith for Galilee Baptist Church. Your social nature, hard work, and tireless service will never be forgotten. Today, we honor you not just for your longevity, but for your heart, your faith, and your dedication to our church and community.
Mrs. Gloria Blackmon joined Galilee Baptist Church Mrs. Gloria Blackmon joined Galilee Baptist Church on April 2, 1950, and has been an irreplaceable part of our church family ever since. For over 60 years, she faithfully served as the church secretary, a role in which her dedication and meticulous work helped guide the administration of the church.

Before her time as Galilee’s secretary, she worked downtown in the Gary National Bank building for Dr. Leonard Hoit, and later contributed her skills to Easter Seals, reflecting her lifelong dedication to serving others.

A proud graduate of Froebel, having attended from kindergarten through twelfth grade, Mrs. Blackmon has carried her love of learning into her work at Galilee. She taught Vacation Bible School, sharing her faith and wisdom with younger generations. As a member of the Rebekah Mission Circle and the Board of Christian Education, she has tirelessly worked to uphold and advance the spiritual mission of our church.

Her service extended to the kitchen committee, where her delicious dressing and cakes became a staple at funeral repasts and church events. Her contributions nourished not just the body but the spirit, offering comfort and care during times of fellowship and remembrance.

In addition to her administrative and culinary gifts, Mrs. Blackmon is a gifted singer. For many years, she blessed our congregation with her beautiful rendition of Bless This House O’ Lord during church anniversary celebrations, leaving an indelible mark on our hearts.

As the mother of three children, grandmother of two, and great-grandmother of one, Mrs. Blackmon’s legacy of love and faith extends beyond Galilee and into her family, who carry forward the values she has instilled.

Mrs. Blackmon, your decades of service, your willingness to step into any role, and your enduring faith have been a blessing to our church. You have given so much of yourself to Galilee, and today we celebrate and honor all that you have done and all that you mean to us.

Thank you for your heart, your voice, and your steadfast dedication.
